At FISL 11 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, FSFE's President will talk about how to carry the ideas of software freedom into the world of cloud computing and software as a service. The talk starts at 18:00 local time.

FSFE is proud to welcome the release of a new educational document on Free Software licensing. Developed by delegates of the European Legal Network, the document helps software developers and lawyers by making it easier to decide under which licenses they can distribute their work.

This month, the Vienna Fellowship meeting will be in the Metalab, located in the Rathausstraße 6 in the 1st district of Vienna. At 20:00 the first Fellowship meeting at Donostia/San Sebastian will take place at the Restaurant “Kaska Zuri”, Paseo de Salamanca, Donostia/San Sebastian. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will meet with Fellows and other Free Software supporters from the region. Everyone is welcome. For Rogall-Grothe a valid technological standard must first be fully publicized, secondly be unrescritively and consistently used, and thirdly not be subjected to any legal restrictions. "The German government has clearly stated that a technical standard will only be recognised if it can be implemented by all organisations, including Free Software companies and developers", says Matthias Kirschner, German Coordinator at the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE).

This edition covers Neelie Kroes' statement about Open Standards, the Free Software discussion in Saxony (Germany), and the relicensing of WebM to be GPL compatible, and asks you all to keep in touch with your politicians about Free Software issues.

On 25 May 2010 the regional government authority of Bolzano decided to spend 2.2 million EUR over the next three years to renew software licenses from Microsoft Ireland, and to buy additional licenses. All this was done without a public call for tender, making it impossible for competing suppliers of similar software to make offers of their own.

Every time the members of FSFE's general assemblyhave their annual meeting, we have a get-together with the local community on Saturday evening. We would like to meet you, have a lot of Free Software discussions with you, and talk with you about your perception of the Free Software situation in Italy and what we can do. May was quite busy, for the first time we participated in a big church event to inform visitors about Free Software. We analysed the European Commission's Digital Agenda, and there was news about free video formats.

The next in our series of regular Fellowship Meetings in Göteborg takes place on Thursday, June 3. The location is Gnutiken in Övre Husargatan 27. Everyone is welcome to attend.

David Reyes Samblas Martinez is the founder of Spanish Copyleft Hardware store Tuxbrain, and attended the famous Open University of Catalunya. He’s also the subject of this month’s Fellowship interview, in which he answers questions on hardware manufacturing, e-learning and Free Software politics.

On 2 June at 20:00 there will be a Fellowship meeting in the restaurant "Schwarzes Schaf", Erzstraße 46, 57076 Siegen. Christian Holz, FSFE's Executive Director, will be there, too. Guests are welcome.
